Walmart ready to do battle

Walmart is bringing back thousands of products that were unceremoniously dumped from stores, saying it is ready to roll up its sleeves to win the lowest-price battle with its rivals. Walmart listened to the customers who are telling them that they want the right products in a one-stop shop at the lowest prices. Customers are still interested in name brands like Hellman's mayonaise, Febreeze and Glade. After a long sales slump the giant retailer is going to try a new tagline "low prices, everyday, on everything. Walmart will now promise to match a competitors advertised price and ring this on the register while the purchase is happening. Other new elements are necessary for the sales to improve and regain the share of the marketplace they once held.

  1. Very interesting, Walmart never seems to amaze me. I always thought they stoped selling some of the brand name products because their Great Value brand has grown so much in the past 10 years. And it is typical Walmart to remove their competitiors from the shelfs eliminating choices. But perhaps it was because they couldn't sell it at a competitive price. It's funny though that in this aticle it sates that Target was. It sounds like big business bully tactics that didn't pay off for Walmart. It does proove the consumers do have a voice.

  2. I am curious what Wal-Mart will do with the prices to the suppliers. Matching competitor's prices is a great way to market and bring in consumers, but I wonder if they pressure the suppliers to lower their cost by a set percent so that Wal-Mart continues to make a set percent for their profit. Sounds like the making of a monopoly.

  3. I'd be interested to see a customer survey on Walmart and why they are losing customers, while prices can drive customers-I would not be surprised if Walmart is losing some of its business due to the environment within the store. In providing such low prices, they attract all walks of life, and many times going into Walmart can seem like you are walking into a carnival! It's fun to people watch, but I really don't enjoy shopping with white trash arguing going on in the background. I've been going to Target for the last 3 years, I don't mind paying a little more for a nicer place to shop and the whole one-stop pull just isn't there for me anymore. I can buy staples at Target, and then grocery shop for food-I was never impressed with the food quality at Walmart anyways.

  4. I agree with Teri, I do most of my shopping at Target now, the clothes, food, etc selection is a much higher quality. Although it is interesting to go to Wal-Mart to see the different people. I also wonder what products Wal Mart is brining back and if it's bringing them back, why did it get rid of them in the first place? Were they not successful to begin with or just more expensive?
Side note: If you want to see funny Wal-Mart pictures go to peopleofwalmart.com , you can see the people without the hassel of going to Wal-Mart. :)

  5. I agree with Teri. I would not doubt that part of losing certain customers is due to the atmosphere that Walmart now has. I know that I personally have started to shop more at Target because I enjoy the environment and atmosphere while shopping much better. I also wouldn't doubt sales have decreased because of the quality of their products, but more importantly what their products are made of. Personally, I don't want anything that could hurt me or my family just because it cost us a couple dollars less.
